The minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) denied the request of Filipe Martins, former advisor to international affairs of the Jair Bolsonaro government (PL), next week, during the judgment of the complaint against him for attempted coup.
The trial is scheduled to take place on Tuesday (22) and Wednesday (23). Martins’ defense had asked him to circulate through the capital during the day, but Moraes denied the request and reiterated the previous decision, which only authorized his presence in the Supreme Court during the trial.
The minister had already allowed the coming of Martins to Brasilia, but restricted the travels between the airport, the hotel and the Supreme headquarters.
According to Moraes, “authorization to accompany the trial corresponds to an exceptional change in the situation of the accused, in respect of the principle of broad defense, but does not mean a true license to do tourism or political activities in Brasilia, since the accused is in compliance with several precautionary measures of different prison.”
Martins is part of core two of the coup complaint, composed of second-ranking Bolsonaro government authorities who, according to the prosecution, acted to keep the former president in power even after his defeat to (PT). According to the complaint, it was up to Martins to bring Bolsonaro the first version of the scammer draft, as well as providing legal support to the plot.
A month ago, Martins’s lawyer, Sebastião Coelho, caused a riot during the session analyzing the complaint against Bolsonaro. He tried to enter the plenary without being registered and was barred by the security of the Supreme Court. Outside the room, he shouted, disrupted the work and was detained for contempt, being released shortly thereafter.
Nucleus Two, of which Martins is part, is classified as “managerial” by (Attorney General’s Office). The group would have operated in organizing the plan to reverse the outcome of the elections and prevent the possession of Lula (PT).
