New friends of the mountaineers are about to arrive at Evereste

Drones are not only for conventional media: they can also bring groceries to mountaineers in the world’s most difficult climb.

Mount Evereste’s base field is located at a height of about 5,364 meters above sea level. Field One is 6,065 meters.

Between these two points of the most challenging mountain for any mountaineer, it is 1.8 kilometers. An experienced mountaineer, or a Sherpa, Tibetans who inhabit the Himalayas, takes about 7 hours to climb this distance. But there is a small object that runs this (much) distance faster, in a briefS 6 minutes: a drone.

And it can be more useful than it seems: these devices can bring groceries to the mountaineer camp bases, and forever revolutionize climbing.

The idea began with Mount Evereste 3D mapping using drones. Airlift Nepal CEO Raj Bikram then decided to try in 2024 to carry cargo with the drones.

Mingma G Sherpa makes excursions by the company Imagine Nepal, and recognized the need for this innovation after losing 3 friends in a mountain avalanche, tells.

“They had to climb and down the mountain twenty times to discover the walkOe then go back to pick up the equipment. I had heard that in China they used drones to help do this in another mountain, so I thought ‘why not here?’

“At first, because it was also our first time in the Evereste base field, we were not sure how the drone would behave at that altitude and that temperature,” says Bikram.

But at the end of 40 flights, the mission was successful: “As soon as they find out that ‘here we need a stairs’, ‘here we need a rope’send us the coordinates through a Walkie-Talkie And we took the equipment there, ”says the Milan Pandey drone pilot.

But there are still difficulties to overcome, such as money: each device costs almost 70,000 euros, and “as there is no electricity, we need a lot of fuel to carry the batteries. The cost of reaching camp, the cost of labor, accommodation, food, there are many,” says the company’s CEO.

But the potentialities are endless, and with the evolving of technology there is hopes of large -scale application. “We are not just providing equipment. Search and rescue is one of our main priorities. When people deviate from the rail, We can help geolocalize them“The experts explain.
