According to the Central Union of Jewish Religious Communities (Únežno) in Slovakia, Pope Francis became a symbol of empathy and courage to face painful themes of history for the Jewish community. He showed that to remember and learn from the common past is the basis for a better future. The Union stated this on Monday’s death of the Pope on the social network.
“With deep respect, we remember his words, which were heard in September 2021 at the Rybné námestie in Bratislava. He met with representatives of the Slovak Jewish Jewish community on the site of the former Synagogue, next to the Holocaust Memorial and sent a strong message of reconciliation, dialogue and memories,” He wrote the Union, saying that the Pope then spoke of the importance of fraternal coexistence and the need to reject hatred or anti -Semitism.
At the same time, he expressed sincere condolences to Catholics in Slovakia. Pope Francis died on Monday morning at the age of 88.
