Postponed the canonization of, a ceremony scheduled for Sunday and which would consecrate the first ‘Millennial Saint, due to the death of the announced the Holy See on Monday (21). Acutis, known for his virtual catechism, died of leukemia in 2006, at age 15, and would be canonized in a Mass at the Holy See on April 27.
“After the death of the High Pontiff Francisco, we inform you that the Eucharistic celebration and the Rite of Canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis (…) were postponed,” the Vatican said in a statement. Acutis dedicated much of his short life to spread the Catholic faith on social networks. He was very talented in computer science and created a digital exhibition about Eucharistic miracles, which earned him the nickname “God’s influencer” or “cyber apostle.”
The young man, born in London, from Italian parents in 1991, grew up in Milan, northern Italy. He spent his holidays at the second house of his family in Assisi and died of fulminant leukemia in Monza. Although his family was not very religious, he showed great religious fervor since he was very young.
He was beatified in 2020, and the Vatican attributes him two miracles that qualify him for canonization: the healing of a Brazilian boy with a rare malformation in the pancreas and the cure of a seriously injured Costa Rican student in an accident. In both cases, families asked the adolescent’s intercession.
