In 1908, the construction was a sensation in Tyrol. Two Jewish families in the city center of Innsbruck built a department store with an elevator and central heating on three floors. In 1938 it was “aranized”, destroyed in World War II, then rebuilt. In 1966 it was given the name Kaufhaus Tyrol. It went through the hands of the families Gerngross and Palmers – until René Benko wanted to create a monument at the location in his hometown.
