The news was revealed by the National Federation of Doctors, which explains that doctors’ complaints reveal months delays in the authorization of medicines and examinations, “with a direct impact on survival and prognosis of patients.”
The National Federation of Doctors (FNAM) revealed on Tuesday that doctors of the Medical Oncology Service of the Local Health Unit of the Algarve had unlawful delegations, denouncing lack of working conditions and care provided to users.
FNAM explains that the doctors of doctors reveal Months of Months in the authorization of medicines and exams, “with direct impact on the survival and prognosis of patients”and says it has already denounced the case to the General Inspection of Health Activities (IGAS).
Among other situations, FNAM states that doctors point out a lack of basic physical conditions – “like bathrooms and hot water” -, “EXTREMA DEFERENCE” human resources, absence of medical fixation plan and normal functioning of hospitalization dependent on internal doctors.
Doctors, according to FNAM, denounce “Constant damage” in critical equipment, namely for the preparation of chemotherapy, a care load “unsustainable” and a “structural disorganization “ that compromises clinical security.
They also complain of not being involved in strategic decisions about the future of oncology in the region.
Loulé Chamber advances with installation of new equipment
These complaints appear after the Loulé Chamber announced, at the end of March, to advance to the installation of a new equipment in a building where the Algarve cancer patients will be fully treatedavoiding travel to Lisbon or Seville, as happens now.
This Solution was found with the Algarve ULS agreement and the Algarve Academic Center for Research and Biomedical Training (ABC)after abandoned the previous project of changing the detail plan of Parque das Cidades to enable the construction of the new South Reference Cancer Center, which should be installed since 2024.
The new unit is expected to operate in mid -2026, with an investment of 3.5 million euros funded by 60% by European funds (Portugal2030) and 40% by the Loulé Chamber.
The Department of Urbanism of the municipality of Loulé had spurred in January the construction of the Southern Regional Oncological Center claiming that the project exceeded the limit area of the installment available for its construction and did not respect the stipulated green areas.
With the agreement achieved, ULS Algarve guarantees “The realization of all conditions for the performance of all PET in the region in the new equipment until the operation of the Algarve Central Hospital”.
In the note released Tuesday, in view of the reports of doctors, FNAM claims the resolution of the constraints pointed out with reinforcement of human and technical resources, the valorization of medical work and the guarantee that structuring decisions, such as the creation of cancer centers, involve professionals of the National Health Service.
