Pope Francis died at the age of 88. The funeral mass will be held at the Svätopeter Square.
The Italian government declared a five -day state mourning on Tuesday after the death of Pope Francis, who died of Easter Monday. TASR informs according to the DPA report.
The flags in front of the state buildings were launched in the country halfway. In the metropolis of Rome, strict security measures apply to farewell ceremonies and funerals on Saturday.
World leaders at the funeral
Participation in František’s funeral has already been announced by several world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German office Olaf Scholz, head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von Der Leyen, Polish head of Andrzej Duda and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greeny. US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania will also be present at the funeral of the Pope. Russian President Vladimir Putin will not participate in the last farewell to Pope Francis, confirmed the Kremlin.
The Pope died at the age of 88. The funeral mass will be held at the Svätopeter Square. After its end, they will transfer the coffin to the Basilica of St. Peter and from there in accordance with Francis’ request to the Roman Basilica of the Virgin Mary (Santa Maria Maggiore). In his last will, Francis expressed his wish to be buried in a simple, unprockled tomb in the Roman Basilica, where the famous icon Salus Populi Romani, which the Pope specially honored.
Last farewell
The coffin of the Pope from the Holy House of St. Martha, where it is currently exhibited, will be transferred to the Basilica of St. Peter on Wednesday at 09.00.
State sadness on the funeral day – Saturday 26 April – was also announced by Poland.
