Journalist Matías Molina dies at 87

He worked for almost 3 decades at “Gazeta Mercantil” and founded the magazine “Exame” in Editora Abril

Died on Monday (21.br.2025) journalist Matías Molina, at the age of 87, in São Paulo. Graduated in History from USP (University of São Paulo), Molina was one of the main names in economic journalism in the country.

Molina worked for 29 years in the newspaper Gazetawhere he was an editor, correspondent in London, editor-in-chief and editorial director. Also acted in S.Paulo Folha and in Editora Abril, where he founded and was the 1st editor of the magazine Exam.

Born in Madrid (Spain) on July 25, 1937, Molina came to Brazil in 1955 with her mother. “I created roots here”said the journalist in report by the website Portal of Journalists on August 10, 2012.

Matías Molina leaves the wife, Cynthia Malta, and the sons José and Maurício Martinez.

Molina’s body will be veiled on Tuesday (22.abr) in the south of São Paulo, from 14h. The funeral will be held in the sequence at 16h.
