Plan investments: improve troops conditions, cybersecurity or new defense equipment
The first of the pillars of the Defense Plan, which represents 35% of the budget, will be the improvement of troop and sailor conditions, for which months ago he announced a salary rise. “We will approve the conditions of Spanish soldiers to Europeans because we want to even more improve the formation of our Armed Forces,” said Sánchez.
The second, which represents 31% of the investment, will be to prepare, manufacture, and acquire new telecommunications and cybersecurity capabilities. Spain is the object of more than 1,000 cyber attacks to critical infrastructures “that do not appear in the media, but that exist and are real,” said the president. For this pillar, 3,260 million euros will be allocated with which Athens, Radars will be acquired and cyberdepensses will be reinforced both in the military and civil sphere. “We want to create a digital shield for Spain.”
The third pillar represents 15% of the plan and will be allocated to the acquisition of new defense and deterrence teams. “Not to attack because Spain is pacifist and believes in diplomacy, but to deter those who think of attacking Spain or Europe,” said Sánchez.
The fourth Pilar will be focused on strengthening dual capacities to help, not only in the military field, but also to emergencies and natural disasters (floods or fires, etc.) because “Spain is very affected by climate change.” This pillar will represent 17% of the investment. That is, 1,750 millions of euros.
And finally, the fifth Pilar is intended for the improvement of security in the missions of Spanish soldiers (about 3,000 between military and civil guards) abroad. Missions in which Spain is involved under the umbrella of international organizations such as UN, NATO or the European Union.
Sanchez’s security and defense plan to reach 2% of GDP translates into a total investment of almost 34,000 million euros.
