A woman who presented herself as a lawyer was arrested in the act on Monday (21), in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, after being caught in video assaulting a dog with a broom on the porch of a building in the neighborhood of barrel.
At times, a child, daughter of the accused, also appears on the scene, witnessing the aggression. The Basset dog, called Belinha, is eight months old.
The video was sent to project volunteers in the claws of the law, who moved to the scene. At the address, witnesses confirmed the facts.
The case was registered at the 32nd Police Station (Taquara). Based on the material presented and the statements collected, the police staff arrested his wife for the crime of abuse against domestic animals.
In an interview with CNNDelegate Isabela Fonseca pointed out that the crime of animal abuse is unenforceable.
“With this arrest, the Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro reinforces the importance of respect and protection of animals. Note that abuse is not only a cruel act, but it is also a crime provided for in the Environmental Crimes Law, which provides for a penalty of imprisonment of two to five years, as well as a fine and the ban on maintenance of the animal custody,” said the delegate of the 32nd DP (Taquara).
The dog was rescued and taken to a veterinary clinic for evaluation and treatment. Subsequently, Belinha was accepted by the NGO defenseless, who currently seeks a temporary home for the animal, while awaiting a decision in court.
The defense of the woman, who is a lawyer, has not been found so far to comment on the case.
