Military police mock the death of Pope Francis: “It's late”

Pará Military Police were caught offensive comments about the death of the corporation’s internal messaging group. The speeches, which celebrate the death of the pontiff, generated indignation both inside and outside the institution.

In the prints you can see one of the PMs sharing an image of the Pope with the phrase: “less a communist on Earth,” in a commemoration. Another policeman responds below: “It’s already late,” and a complete third: “The only holy man who lived among us was Jesus.”

The episode takes place amid the international commotion for the death of Pope Francis, which took place on Sunday (20/4). Globally recognized for his commitment to human rights, social justice and interreligious dialogue, Jorge Bergoglio received honors from religious and political leaders around the world. In Pará, Governor Helder Barbalho decreed official mourning.
