After Pope Francis’ death On Monday (21), conspiracy theorists rescued one of the alleged Nostradamus propheciesclaiming that the text refers to this week’s event and can predict the decline of the Catholic Church.

The stretch that viralizes says the following (in translation to Portuguese):

“With the death of a very old pontiff/ a good age Roman will be elected/ It will say that we weaken his seat/ but he will remain sitting for a long time and in scathing activity.”

About this successor, Nostradamus’s text still adds: “A young man with dark skin, with the help of the great king, will deliver the bag to another red.”

The French occultist Nostradamus lived during the 16th century and published a series of prophetic writings in his book “The Prophecy”, which aimed to predict the future. The phrases are enigmatic, and were written mixing French, Latin and Greek.

The texts do not usually cite any kind of date and often bring generic information that is attributed by readers to events that seem to fit into the description.

The choice of a new Pope

In the coming weeks, 135 voters cardinals will meet in the Sistine Chapel to define who in charge of the Catholic Church.

The election of a Vatican head of state generates discussions around names considered strong candidates. There is even an Italian term to define these cardinals: “papabile” (“papable” in literal translation).

Despite the speculation, there is a cautious popular saying that states: “Who enters the conclave as a Pope, comes out as a cardinal.” That is, being considered a strong candidate guarantees nothing.
