In one of his latest actions, Pope Francis thanked his nurse, who helped the Pontiff surprise the faithful in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday (20) of Easter with a brief walk to the Paparmobile for the first time since hospitalization due to bilateral pneumonia.

“Thank you for bringing me to the square,” Francisco said Massimiliano Strappetti, who was taking care of the 24-hour pontiff, said the Vatican’s official news vehicle on Tuesday (22).

The 88 -year -old Pope after a cardiac arrest.

The pontiff spent 38 days at the hospital earlier this year fighting pneumonia, but returned to the Vatican almost a month ago and seemed to be recovering.

Francisco, known for striving to exhaustion, spent his last day working, contrary to the Council of Doctors, who told him to rest for two months to allow good recovery.

Last Hours of Pope Francis

About 35,000 believers gathered on Sunday, while the Pope was sitting in a high chair on the back of the PapaMóvel.

There was shouts of “Live Il Papa” (Long live the Pope) and the vehicle stopped so that Francis could bless babies brought by papal advisors.

The rest of the Pope’s last Sunday was normally passed, according to the Vatican agency. He had a “quiet dinner” and the first signs of a “sudden harm” occurred at 5:30 am, local time, Monday.

“Just over an hour later, when making a farewell gesture with your hand to Strappetti… the pontiff went into a coma. He didn’t suffer, and it all happened very fast,” the agency added.

The Vatican vehicle pointed out that Francis died “having embraced the people again after a long time.”
