Families have until the end of May to register. The places of placements come out on July 1st.
The enrollment of children who in September go to the preschool or the first year of school start this Tuesday and end in late May, and the places are known on July 1.
Enrollment in the first year of basic education is mandatory for all children who are six years old until September 15, but it is also possible to enroll those who complete the six years later although they are conditioned to the existence of a vacancy.
Also for preschool there may be no schools for all. The government announced this month but a recent survey had revealed that about ten thousand vacancies were needed to respond to all needs.
On July 1st schools will post the places of placements.
Families who do not get a place in the public network will be able to apply for vacancies that will appear following competitions for another five thousand vacancies in private and cooperative schools and social solidarity institutions, for which 42.5 million euros were allocated by the Ministry of Education and Science.
As more needy families will have priority And the idea is to reinforce the offer in the most demand, which are mostly in the Lisbon area, as is the case of Sintra, Seixal, Amadora, Odivelas, Lisbon and Barreiro.
The plan foresees the opening of new rooms with a minimum of 20 children and a maximum of 25 or adapts to existing to receive more children.
Families have until the end of May to register, and there are no advantages in delivering the enrollment first, as schools only take the process after the deadline.

In the second half of June, between the 16th and 27th, the enrollment of the students who next school year go to 6, 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th years of school.
Between July 1st and 11th will be the registration time of the remaining students of the 1st cycle and 5th year and between July 15 and 22, the registrations of those who go to the 10th and 12th years of schooling.
On August 1st will be published the lists of students placed in all years of schooling beyond the preschool and 1st grade.
Enrollment is mandatory only for students who now go for the first time for the 1st year.
All the remaining years are made automatically, except when there is a change in teaching, school, course, or need to choose some subjects, as in secondary education. All other renewals are made automatically.
The guardianship recommends that families put the five schools they prefer, because if the preferences are not written, the process is done by administrative placement of (Dgeste).
Registration should be done online in but it is still possible to do it in person in schools.
Before preschool, children can benefit from which covers all children born from September 2021.
