Wooden ash as cheap and efficient fertilizer

Organic fertilizers are definitely recommended and should be the basis of fertilization of crops and ornamental greenery. However, it is always important to find out what a particular fertilizer contains. For wooden ash, you would not have supposed that 30 to 35 % are calcium, 6 to 10 % potassium, 2 to 4 % phosphorus and 4 to 7 % magnesium. In addition, it contains trace quantities of manganese and nitrogen.
The wooden ash is alkaline, which is mainly due to the calcium content. Its pH is around 12. What does it mean for tomatoes and other greenery?
It is a nitrogen -free fertilizer. This means that it will not promote an increase in green matter. Calcium -rich fertilizer is important for many crops, and definitely also for tomatoes. Calcium deficit can greatly endanger the development of the fetus. It manifests itself as a dark spot on the bottom of the fetus, which growers often confuse with rot or mold.
The fertilizer also contains a satisfactory amount of potassium and phosphorus, which stimulates the plant to deploy flowers and the development of fruits.

When and how to use the wooden ash?
You can incorporate wood ash into the soil when planting tomatoes. The plant will thus obtain enough calcium and, moreover, you can adjust the pH of too acidic soil.
Due to the lack of nitrogen, fertilization cannot be fertilized during the growth phase of the plant, when we want it to be lush and strong. At the beginning of growth, therefore, use rich fertilizers on nitrogen. Organic is for example the cavalry from hen or nettle.
When putting on flowers and ripening fruits, wooden ash as fertilizer is already perfect. If you use it before, always add nitrogen fertilizers during the growth phase of the plant.
Watering and spraying with wood ash
Simply incorporate the wooden ash into the soil. Use 1 to 2 tablespoons of ash per plant every 2 to 3 weeks.
Although the ashes are a great means that will benefit your garden, you should not overuse it. Long -term use can lead to a change in soil pH, which becomes more alkaline than plants can withstand. Therefore, the ashes are not suitable for strictly acid -loving blueberries, cranberries, rhododendrons and other typically acidho -loving plants.
Another option is to fertilize with watering. Pour about a mug of ash into 10 liters of water and let the day stand. You can water the plants with this mixture.
If you want to use the same infusion as a spray that is not only nourishing, but also has a partially repellent effect, you must first drain the infusion and remove fine impurities. Only then pour it into the sprayer. Add 2 to 3 drops of detergent to each bottle of 2 to 3 drops to each bottle with a spray.
Apply the spray in the usual way or outside the midday sun, in flawless weather and from all sides, including below the leaves.
In addition to supplying the necessary nutrients, the ashes also act against fungal diseases, strengthens the plants against mold and may repel slugs, ants, aphids or caterpillars. Therefore, it is recommended to create a barrier around the plant against crawling pests, which you will regularly renew after flushing with rain or watering.
