The Federal Supreme Court (STF) ordered on Tuesday (22) the blation of the cell phones of lawyers and journalists present to.
The decision was made by the first class of the Court, chaired by Minister Cristiano Zanin, on the grounds that internal rules had been breached in the previous session – when – with improper records made by cell phones within the plenary.
The measure represents a significant change in court practices. Until then, press and law professionals were not required to deliver the devices in open trial sessions.
The decision was received with surprise and concern for representatives of the categories. The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) even appointed a lawyer to act as an observer of the session.
During oral support, lawyer Marcelo Almeida Sant’Anna, who defends Filipe Martins, former presidential advisor, was warned by the Supreme Court’s safety for tearing the sealed bag that contained his mobile phone and use the device during the trial. The item was replaced in a new envelope.
The first class analyzes whether the complaint filed by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) against six accused of participating in the planning and operationalization of a coup to prevent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) in 2023.

The STF analysis may lead the accused to become defendants for crimes such as attempted coup, criminal organization and violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law.
