Who is Kevin Farrell, the Camerlengo who will take over the Vatican administration until the election of the new Pope?

At 77, Farrell now has the function of taking care and managing the goods and rights of the Holy See, with the support of three cardinals.

With the death of Pope Francis, Camelngo Kevin Farrell automatically assumed the Vatican administration until the election of the new Pope.

The Pope appointed the cardinal to the position of Camerlengo in February 2019. During the period of vacant headquarters – between the death or renunciation of one pope until the election of another – it is up to Camerlengo to be responsible for the Vatican’s administrative tasks.

Born on September 2, 1947 in Dublin, Ireland, Farrell studied at the University of Salamanca, Spain, and at Gregoriana University in Rome. It also completed a degree in philosophy and theology at the University of São Tomás in Rome.

It served as chaplain at the University of Monterrey, Mexico, and also in a parish in Bethesda, Maryland state.

For over 30 years, Kevin Ferrell made his journey in United States churches.

In 2007 he was appointed bishop of Dallas and in 2016 he was invited by Pope Francis to lead the Dicastery group to lay people, family and life. Became a cardinal in the same year and since January 2024 who has been president of the .
