The Chamber of Camaragibe, in the state of Pernambuco, rejected a proposal that would give the title of honorary citizen of the city to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on Tuesday, 22. On the same day, the Goiânia Chamber (GO) approved the granting of the honor for former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL).
In Pernambuco, the title of Citizen Camaragibense was rejected because he did not have the support of at least nine of the 13 councilors. The score was six votes, four abstentions and two votes against. In an interview with a local vehicle, the president of the house, Paulo André (PSB), pinned the former president’s supporters for filing the space, but not to attend when there are other votes.
“There are many articles much more important than the population charges. Then we see the house crowded in one hour of a vote of a citizen title, but in other opportunities for discussion, we see the empty house by groups that say defending the interests of the population,” André told Camaragibe newspaper now.
Virtually at the same time as the vote in Camaragibe, the Goiânia Chamber approved, for 25 favorable votes and three opposites, the title of honorary citizen for Michelle.
The decision of the title to the former first lady had heated discussions among parliamentarians. Councilman Fabrício Rosa (PT) stated that Michelle never contributed directly to the capital of Goiás and that the decision “emptied” the sense of honor.
“There is no history of public policy acting in Goiânia, I do not know any kind of concrete contribution to the Goianiense population. Granting this honorary title, which is the greatest honor of the house to someone without any effective and affective bond, can end up empties the meaning of this recognition,” said the petista.

Councilman William Veloso (PL) of the Bolsonaro and Michelle party said the former first lady “contributed a lot” to the state capital, but without detailing the improvements.
“It was a first lady that contributed a lot, especially in the segment of people with disabilities in the state of Goiás, and is no different in Goiânia,” he said.
Since August 2023, the former president is a citizen of Goiás, receiving the honor from the hands of the state governor, Ronaldo Caiado (Union). The project that granted the title was approved in 2019, when he still headed the executive. He also received the honor of the Legislatures of Paraná and Minas Gerais. Michelle, in turn, is an honorary citizen in the city of São Paulo.
