Call was approved by the Foreign Relations and National Defense Commission on Wednesday (23.ab.2025)
That of the House of Representatives approved on Wednesday (23.ab.2025) the call of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to explain the diplomatic asylum granted to the former first lady of Peru Nadine Heredia Alarcón.
“Parliament and the Brazilian people require urgent explanations of Itamaraty’s recent actions and omissions in the case involving the rescue of a corrupt in Peru”said the committee chairman, deputy (PL-PR).
Nadine Heredia shortly after being sentenced to 15 years in prison for money laundering during the election campaign of her husband, Ollanta Humala.
She was at the Brazilian embassy in Lima, Peru, and on April 16, 2025 on a plane from (Brazilian Air Force).
Nadine and Humala were considered guilty of money laundering and receiving Odebrecht illicit funds for the former president’s campaign in 2011.
According to the decision, Nadine was involved in the bribery scheme. The couple’s trial lasted 3 years. During this period, the former president of Peru maintained the thesis of political persecution.
In the coming days, the court will continue the full reading of the sentence. Nadine and her husband may appeal, but the arrest comes into force immediately.
Humala is the 2nd former president of Peru to be arrested and the 4th to be involved in the case of Odebrecht corruption, investigated in Operation Lava Jato.
Odebrecht, the central part of the investigation, was renamed Novoonor in 2020. In June last year, the company the proposal for leniency agreement presented by the federal government.
