Ordinary pests also attack peppers
Like all crops grown in the garden or in a greenhouse, peppers can suffer from pests. The peppers taste not only to us, but also by spider moltics or aphids that attack other plants in the garden.
There are a number of both industrially produced and domestic means against these unpleasant pests that you can apply repeatedly during the season to prevent the occurrence of pests or destroy them in place. For example, garlic, milk spray, or you can buy organic spray based on oils.
Another problem in growing peppers is mold. Gray mold can attack both leaves and immature fruits. In wet places, bacterial spots of leaves or root rot may also spread, which is related to soil waterlogging. Paps may also appear powdery mildew.
Of course, excessive humidity helps to these diseases. Peppers love heat and require regular watering. The best prevention is the ventilation of the greenhouse, maintaining optimal watering and possibly removing the lower leaves. Also against fungal diseases and powdery mildew can be used home sprays. Atherigona Orientalis occurs in Europe only exceptionally
The specific problems of peppers, or pests, include atherigona orientalis or English Pepper Fruit Fly, which does not have a steady name in Czech. It is a fly -like fly. This small insect puts eggs on the fruits and the larvae then develop inside the peppers. The larvae are drilled into the fetus and enjoying a soft flesh. At first glance, the fetus seems to be fine, but it is already damaged inside and sometimes rotting.
The attacked peppers are recognized by small black dots, which are a place of injection. The fetus can be deformed, soft and prematurely fall. Inside the cut fetus later you will find worms and devastated flesh.
Other crops, especially eggplants and tomatoes, can attack pests. At present, it is not common in the Czech Republic, but experts believe that thanks to introduction or warming it can spread to our territory.
Although the occurrence of this pest in the Czech Republic, Slovakia or Germany is not yet confirmed, in Italy, Greece and Portugal, it has already been suspicious that it occurs here. It certainly attacks peppers grown in Spain, which has reduced some countries from the country. The introduction of the pest is definitely possible and it is probably only a matter of time.
How to defend yourself?
How to defend against this pest? In any case, it is advisable to place the yellow adhesive plates between the plants. Not only adult females, but also various other pests can catch them. Flower beds or growing containers can be provided with mesh to prevent the occurrence of pests. You can also defend yourself against this pest by biological means, in this case parasitic wasps that attack eggs of these insects.
In any case, the prevention is the timely collection of fruits. The longer you leave them to the peppers, the more likely they are attacked. If you find fruits that show signs of attack, you need to dispose of them immediately. Never leave them near healthy fruits and plants, do not put them on compost.
