WASHINGTON (Reuters)-OpenAi would be interested in buying Google Chrome if antitrust authorities are successful in forcing Alphabet to sell the popular web browser, as part of an attempt to restore competition in the polls, witnessed an OpenAi executive on Tuesday at Google Antitrust trial in Washington.
ChatgPT Product Chief Nick Turley made the statement by witnessing a trial in Washington, where the US Department of Justice seeks to require Google to take long range measures to restore competition in online polls. OpenAi owns ChatgPT, an artificial intelligence tool that has revolutionized the sector.
The judge who supervised the trial concluded last year that Google has a monopoly on online surveys and related advertising.
Google did not put Chrome for sale. The company plans to appeal the decision that it holds the monopoly.
The beginning of the high -risk trial has provided a glimpse of the Generative Artificial Intelligence Race (AI), where large technology and startup companies are competing to develop their applications and earn users.
Prosecutors raised concerns in initial statements on Monday that Google’s search monopoly could give you AI advantages and that their products in the area are another way to bring users to their search engine.

Google highlighted competition between companies that offer general AI products, such as Meta Platforms and Microsoft.
Turley wrote last year that ChatgPT was a leader in the consumer chatbots market and did not see Google as its largest competitor, according to an OpenAi internal document presented by Google’s lawyer at the trial. He witnessed that the document aimed to inspire OpenAI employees and that the company would still benefit from distribution partnerships.

Turley, the government’s witness, stated early in the day that Google rejected an OpenAi proposal to use its search technology on ChatgPT. OpenAi contacted Google after facing problems with its own search provider, Turley said. ChatgPT uses Microsoft search engine technology, Bing.

“We believe that having several partners, and in particular Google API would allow us to provide a better product to users,” OpenAi told Google, according to an email shown at the trial.
OpenAi first contacted in July, and Google refused the request in August, saying it would involve many competitors, according to the email.
“We have no partnership with Google today,” said Turley.

The Justice Department’s proposal to make Google share research data with other companies as a way to restore competition would help to accelerate efforts to improve chatgpt, Turley said.
Research is an essential part of ChatgPT to provide answers to consultations of users who are up to date and factual, said Turley. Chatgpt is years away from its goal of being able to use its own research technology to respond to 80% of consultations, he added.
Exclusive agreements
In August, US district judge Amit Mehta concluded that Google protected its research monopoly through exclusive agreements with Samsung Electronics and other companies, to have its standard search engine in new devices.

Google had considered agreements with Android mobile manufacturers, such as Samsung, which would provide exclusivity not only for your search application, but also for your Gemini AI and Chrome browser, according to a document shown at the trial.
Instead of signing more exclusive contracts, however, Google has flexed its latest agreements with Samsung and Motorola device manufacturers and AT&T and Verizon mobile operators, allowing them to carry rival search offers, have shown other documents.
Non -exclusive agreements reflect what Google said is the solution to dealing with Mehta’s decision. The Justice Department wants the judge to go further, forbidding Google from making profitable payments in exchange for the installation of its search application.
Google sent letters last week reiterating that their agreements did not ban companies from installing other AI products on new devices, witnessed Google executive Peter Fitzgerald on Tuesday.
