Teams from the 9th Metropolitan Military Police Battalion were fired after the agent has changed behavior and make suicide threats
A soldier of died on Tuesday night after shooting four other corporation agents in a confrontation in the Limão neighborhood, north. According to PM preliminary information, Rogério Vital dos Santos was off and committed suicide shortly after being injured.
Internal registration of the PM points out that teams from the 9th Metropolitan Military Police Battalion (9th BPM/M) were called in to meet an occurrence in which the PM off “had altered behavior and made suicide threats after a family disagreement.”
According to the document, the policeman locked himself in his apartment, located on the 7th floor of a building on Thomaz Antonio Villani Street, in the Lemon neighborhood, and began firing a firearm at the police team that held the initial service. He would be alone during the shots.
The record points out that no one was injured at first, but that, given the severity of the situation, it was necessary to trigger a specialized team of the Special Tactical Action Group (Gate), which around 20h started the negotiations to try to contain the agent and resolve the crisis.
The negotiations for the police offspring would have lasted about four hours, but without much advance. After attempted teams with the use of robots and negotiation protocols, Rogério would have again fired, injuring four members of the 4th Shock Police Battalion.
During the confrontation, Rogério was shot in the chest and arm. He then “tied against his own life,” according to the internal record. The Military Police Medical Emergency Care team was called to provide immediate help to the perpetrator, but the soldier did not resist and died at the scene.
According to the corporation, the picture is “suicide by the police (internationally known as Suicide by COP), in which the individual, by threatening and shooting security agents, deliberately seeks to provoke a lethal reaction as a way to interrupt his own existence.”
“The Military Police provides full support to injured police and their families, and stresses that all technical and operational protocols have been followed, focusing on the preservation of lives and the safety of the population,” says the corporation.
Data from the latest edition of the Brazilian Public Security Forum Yearbook (FBSP), published last year, point out that suicides committed by active military police are up in São Paulo. There were 31 occurrences in 2023, up 40.9% compared to the 22 cases registered a year earlier.
In parallel, the deaths committed by agents of the Military Police in Service have also been discharged, especially the state capital, where the cases doubled: 184 occurrences from January to December 2024, compared to 92 cases in 2023, according to data from the Public Security Secretariat.
