It is the reaction of the US President after Zelensky said in an interview with Wall Street Journal that he will not accept a ceasefire agreement involving the Russian occupation of Crimea.
Donald Trump accuses Zelensky of “hindering” the process of putting an end to the war in Ukraine after the Ukrainian President said on Wednesday that he will never recognize the “illegal occupation of crime”.
At Truth Social, Trump says Zelensky’s statement “It is very harmful to peace negotiations with Russia”because, he stresses, “Crimea was lost for years under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama, and is not even a point of discussion.”
“If he [Zelensky] I wanted Crimea, why did you not fight her for eleven years, when she was handed over to Russia without shooting? ”
The US President states that the situation in Ukraine is “terrible” and that Zelensky can choose between “having peace” or “fighting for three more years before losing the whole country”.
“I look forward to the possibility of helping Ukraine and Russia to leave this full and total disaster, which would never have started if I were president!” He concludes.
Zelensky rejects recognizing the Russian occupation of Crimea
A, the Ukrainian President rejected to accept any proposal for ceasefire that includes the Russian occupation of Crimea.
“Ukraine will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea. There is nothing to add. It goes against our constitution,” he said.
The proposal had been presented last week by the US delegation to Ukrainian employees, but Ukraine insists on a ceasefire before new negotiationsas a way for Russia to show “serious, not childish steps” in the peace process.
