Federal Deputy Pedro Lucas, leader of União Brasil in the House, spoke on the postponement of the vote on the urgency of the Amnesty Bill in an interview with CNN. The parliamentarian highlighted the sensitivity of the theme for all benches, especially those of center, which have significant number of signatures supporting the urgency of the project.
Lucas explained that one of the main questions raised during the leader meeting was the discrepancy between the text of the signed urgency and what was later presented to the benches.
“The big question raised until the moment I was there is that the signature of the urgent text was one and what was passed to the benches were others,” said the deputy.
The leader of União Brasil defended the concession of more time to the mayor, Hugo Motta, to conduct the negotiations. Lucas believes that this additional period will allow a deeper dialogue with the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the construction of a broader text.
“I believe we can build a dialogue with the Supreme Court longer giving President Hugo Motta to make it so that he can make this debate, this construction of a text that can truly solve this amnesty issue,” the parliamentarian argued.
Pedro Lucas emphasized the importance of reaching a solution that meets people who, in their view, are being wronged. “For those people who need, who are being wronged, can have a more comprehensive, rounder text, let’s say so,” concluded the deputy before returning to the meeting of leaders.
