The Civil Guard investigates a man for an alleged crime of animal abuse to 66 dogs found in serious health in a livestock exploitation of the municipality of Cañamero (Cáceres).
The events occurred at the end of last March, when agents of the natural environment alerted the agents of the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the location of several dead dogs on the farm.
After the notice, the Civil Guard appeared in the place, where it found the existence of a livestock exploitation that housed cattle, horses, pigs and a large group of dogs.
During the inspection, the existence of various animals was also proven in highly deficient conditions, including 66 dogs. The corpses of six dogs -three adults and three puppies -were also located, some of them tied with sliding ties on their necks.
After the finding, the urgent intervention of veterinarians of the Zorita Zone Region was requested, which confirmed the observed irregularities. The prepared veterinary report revealed the absence of registration for the possession of animals that were different from dogs, in addition to “serious health deficiencies, a worrying state of health and without veterinary control of many animals, unhealthy facilities and unacceptable living conditions.”
The report determined that at least five dogs presented a more severe degree of malnutrition, showing the ribs and bones to the naked eye.
The farm was only registered as a zoo for rehala dogs (group of dogs that are used in the monterias), lacking permits to maintain other species present in it, such as pigs, sheep and horses.
On April 14, the head of livestock exploitation was investigated in the Seprona of Guadalupe’s offices as an alleged author of an animal abuse crime. The police proceedings instructed have been referred to the competent judicial authority in Achievements and the Prosecutor’s Office in Cáceres.
