Measure wants to restrict the benefit provided for crimes without violence and with smaller penalties; text will still be analyzed by the CCJ and the plenary of the house
The Public Security Commission of the approved bill prohibiting the application of the non -criminal agreement to people arrested by. The proposal is authored by the deputy (PP-ES). Currently, the agreement may be offered by the prosecutor in cases of crimes without violence or serious threat and with a minimum penalty of less than four years. To sign it, the investigated must confess the crime and to comply with alternative measures such as the provision of community services.
The rapporteur, deputy (PL-SC), gave a favorable opinion to the bill. For her, allowing the benefit in cases of trafficking weakens the fight against drug trafficking. “The granting of this type can give society the idea of tolerance with a crime that severely affects the community,” he said. The text will still be analyzed by the Constitution and Justice and Citizenship Commission (CCJ) and the House Plenary. If approved, it will go to the Senate.
