Quoted by Corriere Della Sera, the doctor says he was called at 5:30 am on Monday and arrived at the Vatican 20 minutes later. “I entered your quarters and he [Francisco] He had his eyes open, ”he started to tell.

“I found that there were no breathing problems. Then I tried to call it by his name, but he did not answer me. He did not react to stimuli, not even painful stimuli. At that moment I realized that there was nothing to do. I was in a coma,” he adds.

According to advanced information by the Vatican Pope Francis died following an unexpected stroke that led to coma and irreversible heart failure.

Speaking to the newspaper La Repubblica, Sergio Alfieri revealed that some officials suggested transporting the Pope immediately to the hospital, but that he “would have died on his way.” “With a TAC we could have made a more accurate diagnosis, but nothing more. It was one of those strokes that, at an hour, they take us away,” he reiterated.

The doctor also said that the Pope did not ignore the doctors’ advice to rest after more than a month hospitalized. “Back to work was part of the treatment and he never exposed himself to any danger,” Sergio Alfieri told Corriere della Sera.

Alfieri also said that he had been with the Pope the previous Saturday and had taken him a pie of a taste he liked. He says that, on that day, the Pope said, “I’m fine, I went back to work and I like it.”

“We knew he wanted to continue to be a Pope until the last moment. He didn’t disappoint us,” he added.

At La Repubblica, Alfieri also said that the Pope confided to him the disgust he had been for him not to be able to wash his feet to the prisoners he visited in a prison from Rome on 17 April. “This time I couldn’t do it, ‘it was the last thing I said to me,” he said.
