The president () took stock of his third term during a dinner with allied base leaders on Wednesday (23) and said he is “very candidate” to reelection in 2026, according to reports from participants.
The dinner lasted more than two hours and was organized by the mayor, (-PB). The event took place by the President of, (União Brasil-AP), three weeks ago.
Criticized for the lack of meetings with congressmen in this mandate, Lula promised to maintain more active contact with the legislature and said his government depends more on Congress than Congress depends on the executive.
According to reports, the petista made a long speech, more than 30 minutes, in which he listed what he considers the main achievements of his government, commented on his history and presented his view of the social issues of the country.
Lula also stated that he is in health and that he will be a candidate for reelection in 2026. At dinner with the senators earlier this month, the petista had made a comment on the subject where he had left the certainty of the candidacy and was warned that it was necessary to be emphatic.
The president also listened to all 16 deputies present, from parliamentarians and PT to representatives of the benches of, Republicans and PSD. Most took the meeting just to introduce themselves to the petista and praise the decision to dialogue more.
The most incisive speech by the deputies was from Hugo Motta, who defended the autonomy of the legislature to change the projects sent by the executive and the independence of the House, but also praised the president and harmony between the powers.
The leader of, Deputy Pedro Lucas (MA), who and decided to continue in the mandate of the House, also participated in dinner. Hours earlier, he had found Lula in the Planalto Palace, along with alcohumbre, to seal, Frederico de Siqueira Filho, as the new minister of the portfolio.
In general, deputies’ reports about the meeting were marked by enthusiasm, with praise for the president’s speech and stance, classified as captivating by one of the present. Another deputy, who is usually more critical to the government, emphasized that that moment had a look of a management start.
Lula also promised to be the host of a next meeting with parliamentarians and welcoming them with a barbecue and football at Granja do Torto, a kind of country house of the Presidency of the Republic in Brasilia.
