President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva should have a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a visit to the country in early May, Russian ambassador in Brazil, Alexey Labetskiy, said.
Lula will travel between May 8 and 10 to participate in the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of “Victory Day”, when the Russians celebrate the victory of the Soviet Union about Nazi Germany in World War II.
Asked whether state bosses will deal with topics such as war with Ukraine, the ambassador said that “he cannot predict all the topics that will be discussed.” He said, however, that issues related to the BRICS – a group that brings together, in addition to the two countries India, China and South Africa – should be dealt with, as well as bloc bank financing, the Novo Development Bank (NDB).
Trade between countries in other currencies beyond the dollar for the ambassador is a longer -term issue. “I am convinced that this will not be a 100 meter race,” he added.
Lula canceled a visit to Russia in October last year, where he would participate in the BRICS summit, after falling into the bathroom of the Dawn Palace. Less than two months after the fall, the president had to undergo a head surgery to drain a bruise on the spot.
