What happens when we die? This is one of the oldest and most intriguing questions of humanity-and for the American Dannion Brinkley, this question has an answer.

Brinkley claims to have lived not one, but two almost death experiences, being the first in 1975, when he was hit by lightning inside his own house. The impact was so violent that he melted the soles of his shoes and launched him against the ceiling. He remembers with details of what he felt:

“He hit the side of my head, above his ear, and went down his spine. I saw a fireball cross the room. He was on fire. Paralyzed,” he told an interview with the American station Klas.

According to him, the rescuers at the hospital, but it was late: he was declared dead for 28 minutes. But this was not the most surprising part of the story.

During the time he was “dead,” Brinkley says he left his physical body and even accompanied the ambulance to the hospital. He would also have assisted his own death being attested by the doctors.

It was then that, according to him, his conscience crossed a tunnel of light, where he found a luminous spiritual form. In this space he describes as serene and intense, he lived a complete review of his life, as if every detail, every choice and each consequence passed before his eyes.

And without any logical explanation, after 28 minutes, he woke up on the morgue – to the general surprise of hospital professionals. The body was seriously injured, and the recovery took two years until it walked again.

If the first experience was hard to believe, Brinkley says he returned to the “other side” in 1989 during an emergency heart surgery. Once again, he reports having crossed the same tunnel, experienced the same sense of peace and received what he describes as spiritual messages.

These experiences have completely changed your life. After knowing the term “almost death experience” – popularized in the 1980s with Dr. Raymond Moody’s book Life Life – Brinkley found meaning to what he lived.

He then wrote his own book, “saved by light,” which became an international bestseller. The work brings details of his visions and reflections on what he believes is life after death.

Today, Dannion Brinkley dedicates his life to helping terminal patients, especially army veterans, to deal with the fear of death. He acts as a volunteer in hospitals and palliative care centers, offering comfort based on his own history.

“I do not see death as the end, but as a transition. My role is to help others cross this bridge with serenity,” he said in a recent interview.

One thing is certain: no one goes out unharmed after hearing his account. And if he is right, the “end” may only be the beginning of a new journey.
