Calling as a witness, Rosa said she refers to the judiciary’s performance: “The time has come for us so much, this moment of judgment. I ask God that the righteousness of God be done at this moment.”

Thiago had landed in Rio Branco two weeks earlier to sign a contract with Santa Cruz do Acre. On the eve of the signature, during a party, he was taken by criminals and executed. According to initial investigations, the crime may have been motivated by “target error”: a photo of the athlete making the “V” sign on his cell phone was interpreted as intimidation to a rival faction.

A native of the UR -7/Várzea community, Thiago dreamed of growing in football and helping his family with extra income. Thrilled, Dona Rosa remembered her son’s promises: “Don’t leave my mind he saying, ‘Mainha, I’m going to help you’. And it moves me a lot, because I always told him, ‘One day you’ll realize your dream.’ He said, ‘I’m going, but don’t worry.’

In the coming days, defense and prosecutor will present evidence and witnesses to elucidate the circumstances of the crime and identify the potential bashes. Family members expect the trial, in addition to pointing out responsibilities, will result in moral reparation and legal support after a year of waiting.
