Kiev military authorities issued an anti-aircraft alert on Wednesday night to an attack of “enemy missiles” against the capital of Ukraine.
At least nine people died and 63 were injured, including children, in an attack at dawn, with Russian missiles against Kiev, the Ukrainian State Emergency Service (DSNs) announced.
“According to preliminary data, nine people died, 63 were injured and 42 were hospitalized, including six children,” said DSNs in the latest balance.
An earlier count released by the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, was reported to two dead and 54 injured.
“Residential buildings have been damaged: the search for people under the rubble is underway.”mentioned the emergency service on the Telegram Message Platform.
Several fires, now extinguished, also triggered Russian bombing.
In Kiev, a France-Presse journalist observed when a dozen inhabitants took refuge in a shelter in the basement of a residential building as soon as the anti-aircraft warning sounded.
The last missile attack against Kiev took place in early April.
In Kharkiv (east), the mayor, Igor Terekhov, also announced “Repeated attacks on missiles” against the city, which left at least two people injured.
In a statement on Telegram, Andriï Iermak, chief of staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, denounced the fact that “Russia is attacking Kiev, Kharkiv and other cities with missiles and ‘drones’.”
The Russian President, Vladimir “Putin, shows only the desire to kill”said Iermak, demanding the ceasing of hostilities and that “attacks on civilians stop.”
In Washington, US President Donald Trump violently attacked Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, accusing him of inflammatory comments on Crimea, a Ukrainian peninsula attached by Russia in 2014. At a time when an agreement with Moscow was “very close,” according to Trump.
