Glauber claims that he adopted a “proportional” reaction by assaulting a MBL member

The Federal Deputy (Citizenship-SP) rejected the parliamentary’s appeal (PSOL-RJ) presented to the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) of the House of Representatives against the decision of the Ethics Council, which voted for the revocation of the Psolist. Mante is the rapporteur of the case in the board. Mante denied the provision of all arguments about the merits of the decision, since for him this has already been evaluated in the Ethics Council, and focused on analyzing procedure vices. The case is under analysis at CCJ this Thursday, 24, and should be voted next week, as there is a possibility of requesting a view (more time for analysis). In the appeal, Glauber claims that he adopted a “proportional” reaction by assaulting a member of the Free Brazil Movement (MBL) who had cursed his sick mother, and has been pursued by the former mayor (PP-AL).

Mante refuted the argument by saying that this analysis is not up to the CCJ. “What is actually, in fact, is the attempt to reopen discussion about the valuation of the evidential elements and the motivation of the penalty, which escapes the limits of the appellate jurisdiction of this committee,” he wrote. The lawsuit against Glauber was opened at the Ethics Council in 2024, after the Fluminense deputy put the influencer Gabriel Costenaro out of the chamber to kicks. Immediately after the decision of the Ethics Council, Glauber decided to start a hunger strike and went to sleep at Plenary 5 of the House, even place that the collegiate had voted for his cassation.

He continued for nine days, and suspended the hunger strike last Thursday, 17, after an agreement with the mayor (Republicans-PB), who promised that the parliamentary vote in plenary would only take place in the second half of this year. Voting at the CCJ is the penultimate step on the way until the loss of Glauber’s position. The last phase will take place in the plenary, where all parliamentarians can vote. There is yet another decision on the Ethics Council pending analysis in the plenary. Chiquinho Brazão (without party-RJ), arrested preventively in March 2024 on charges of being the mastermind of the murder of former Rio Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, was revoked in August 2024 and is still awaiting trial.

Meanwhile, Brazil keeps the parliamentary mandate, even if arrested. The parliamentarian cost more than $ 1.8 million of the House coffers since March last year. This Wednesday (23), Glauber was the subject of conversations between opposition leaders. PL leader in the House, Sostenes Cavalcante (RJ) went to Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) to ask if the deputy would be revoked. Ciro, one of Motta and Lira’s main allies, nodded. Subsequently asked by the report is believed that Glauber will lose his mandate, Ciro gave a brief answer. “If it depends on me, yes,” he said.
