How to grow sprouted potatoes
If you decide to plant potatoes from the supermarket, it is advisable to wash them first to remove any dirt. Smaller tubers can be planted whole, larger you need to cut with a sharp and clean knife into pieces, each piece should have at least one healthy eye. Spread the sliced parts on a newspaper and let them dry for about three days. After three days, a protective layer is formed on the cuts, which helps prevent rot after planting.
For cultivation, choose a well -permeable soil with a slightly acidic pH, ideally between 5.0 and 5.2, which you can enrich with quality compost. If you plant a pot or other container, pour a few centimeters of soil on the bottom. In the case of growing outdoors, dig the groove about 15–20 cm deep and loosen the soil thoroughly. Plant the individual potatoes at least 25 cm apart and sprinkle with several centimeters of clay. Water slightly! The soil should be moist, not waterlogged.
As soon as the shoots begin to grow, add the next soil to the tips of the stems always peek slightly. During the growth, really water carefully, most of the water plants need at the time of flowering. When the stem starts to turn yellow and dry, gradually reduce the watering and stop it a week before the harvest. Harvest the tubers only when the stem is completely dry. Do not wash the potatoes, just gently clean them from the soil and place in a cool and dark place.
