The denunciation arising from the former president and former senator accusing him of receiving at least $ 20 million in bribes in the Petrobras scheme, between 2010 and 2014, between the end of the second term of presidency and the first of (both of).
The accusation was originally presented in 2015, during the command of Rodrigo Janot at (Attorney General’s Office). The agency stated that the former president irregularly made it possible to celebrate four fuel distribution base construction contracts between UTC Engenharia and BR Distribuidora.
The receipt of the amounts would have occurred, according to the prosecution, in 21 payments in kind, made by the former president of the contractor, Ricardo Pessoa, at the company’s headquarters.
The amounts were received by businessman Pedro Paulo Bergamaschi de Leoni Ramos and the moneymaker Alberto Youssef, according to the accusation. Proofs found in Youssef’s office and testimonials from whistleblowers were used as evidence in the action.
Collor was cited as one of the beneficiaries of the corruption scheme at Petrobras, and also in the testimony of Ricardo Pessoa.
Amid the Lava Jato scandals, Petrobras began in 2016 a process of selling BR Distribuidora. In 2019, the state -owned company fell on 30% of the 71.25% of the capital that still held from the subsidiary, and lost control of it. In 2021, the company sold the rest of its participation and was no longer a shareholder.
Collor was convicted in May 2023 by the (Supreme Court) for passive corruption and money laundering. The trial ended in 8 votes to 2 against the former president, and only the ministers and voted for acquittal. The penalty is 8 years and 10 months, in closed initial regime.
At the trial, Minister Edson Fachin said the evidence showed that between 2010 and 2014, Collor influenced BR Distribuidora’s command and boards, which led to the signature of state -owned contracts with UTC.
The magistrate stated that the former president’s culpability is exacerbated, “because affiliation with a criminal group organized by those who are usually depositary of popular trust to exercise power leads to a much more intense disapproval judgment than it would be appropriate in the case of an ordinary citizen.”
The Lava Jato phase targeted the former president, called Politeia, took place in July 2015, and seized luxury cars at the Casa da Dinda, Collor’s famous residence in Brasilia.

In the STF trial, Collor and the other defendants were acquitted of the money laundering charges related to the acquisition of luxury cars, real estate, works of art, speedboat and costing of personal expenses.
The former president and former senator was arrested at dawn on Friday in Maceió.
Collor was arrested at 4am at the airport of the capital of Alagoas. He was arrested by the Federal Police before embarking on a commercial flight that would leave at 4:50 pm to Brasilia.
According to the defense of the former president, he would travel to comply with the decision of the Minister, of the Supreme Court, who determined his arrest.
