A parliamentary amendment of R $ 500 thousand for a day care center maintained by the Anglican Church in the South Zone of the city of, was shelved by the city hall.

The money, which would be intended for activities such as ballet and music for needy children, did not reach the social project.

The amendment was presented in October 2023 by the political opponent of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB).

The money would be applied in a space of 8,000 square meters created in 1997, known as the Anglican Nursery, which serves about 1,000 children from 0 to 4 years. The site is maintained by the Anglican Institute, linked to the Anglican Cathedral of São Paulo.

The amendment would be applied to courses offered in the nursery by City Hall, which needs to endorse its use.

The “acceptance” of the Municipal Secretariat of Education was not given, however, and, after a year, the appeal eventually returned to the federal budget. The amount would be enough to play for a year a series of extra activities that are offered to children on site, one of the most needy in the state capital.

The nursery survives with its own resources and other agreements, including the City Hall. According to the panel, it was the first time an amendment was rejected by municipal management.

Sought, the City of São Paulo did not want to speak up.
