Lawyers argue that former president is already 75 years old and comorbidities, such as Parkinson, severe sleep apnea and bipolar affective disorder
The defense of the former president, 75, requested on Friday (25.abr.br.2025) to the Supreme Court (STF) to grant house arrest, while awaiting trial to endorse the decreed by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The case was in the virtual plenary, but for the physical plenary after Minister Gilmar Mendes’s highlight. The trial has no date yet, but ministers can anticipate their votes until 11:59 pm.
“In this scenario of pending facing first -order issues absolutely detrimental to the immediate fulfillment of the closed prison sentence, the petitioning requires the immediate granting of house arrest.”said the defense.
Collor’s lawyers argue that the former president is elderly and has serious comorbidities such as Parkinson, severe sleep apnea and bipolar affective disorder, “Needing daily use of medications, use of CPAP [equipamento usado para tratar distúrbios respiratórios de sono] and periodic specialized medical visits ”. The former president was sentenced to 8 years and 10 months imprisonment for corruption, money laundering and criminal association in 2023. The court proved that Collor received $ 20 million to irregularly enable BR Distribuidora contracts with UTC Engenharia for the construction of fuel distribution bases while he was a senator.
