We bring you a report from the sent editor from Rome: Just a leap from the Vatican – as if the Italians said “due Passi” – is a quarter that stretches around Via delle Fornaci. It is in close proximity to the ancient Vatican Palace, which has resided the sacred office, which has been the seat of the Pontifical Office of the Pontifical Office of the “purity of faith” for centuries.

Pope’s last and scooter repair shop

In the shadow of the apostles from the facade of Svätopterska, whom from there, there is a small repair shop of scooters. Gabrielli Moto shines above its entrance. It Gabrieli in the title is the surname of the owner, Mrs. Monika. He supervises the work of his at that time the only technician who drills in the bowels of the scooter.

I ask her about the paradox. If thousands of people flow to the leap from there, in the immediate vicinity of the Vatican, life goes to his rhythm. “Although it seems so, we also live very intensely by the death of the Pope,” he responds. “At three in the afternoon, I was behind Francis to see him for the last time,” he tells me.

When I respond that how many hours you had to stand, she says it was “quite fast”. “We didn’t have to stand in line for a long time. It took us something over two hours,” he replies.

“But we feel his loss here. We were very close to us,” says the owner of the scooter service. “From Saint Marta” – as he calls a residence known as the House of St. Marta, where František lived – “published often”.

So how did she perceive her “neighbor” from the neighborhood? “Era Meraviglioso. Caloroso” – reacts with a resounding Italian. Words like: “He was unreal. He cordial.” And he adds the third – “Umano”. And so human. The “Pope of the Last”, summarizes his evaluation Signra Monica Gabrielli.

“And although he has died, we are continuing our work, although for the time being in another state of mind,” ends our mini -interview Mrs. Monica.

The echo of the powerful between washing machines

Next to the Moto Gabrielli scooter repair shop, there is another inscription on Via delle Fornaci: Lavanderia, Stireria, Sartoria. It is a small laundry of this district. In her entrance somehow proudly waiting for its operator Ullah Amarat, who came to Rome from Bangladesh. The fact that it is not Talian, know from his potential look. “The Pope’s death has attracted many people here, but also the powerful of this world,” he says. “Donald Trump will come, but also Volodymyr Zelenskyj,” he responds.

There is a quiet but present sound of large washing machines into our conversation. “Although there are many people, they are decent,” he tells me.

The events in the nearby Vatican also touch his business. Although his washing machines are spinning further, the street and the whole zone are preparing for a large shutdown that will accompany the Pope Saturday’s funeral. “The streets around here will be shut down for traffic, we expect crowds here,” he explains. “Thursday evening seems calm, but it will change on Friday and Saturday,” predicts the satisfied Ullah at the threshold of his laundry.

Peripherals right under František’s windows

The district around Via delle Fornaci also calls it the term “Piccolo Paese”, a kind of small village. Paradoxically in the heart of the world metropolis and for a few steps from the Vatican. From the city state, the Vatican and its walls are separated only by the busy Via Porta Cavallegger artery.

In the underpass below it, the four Roman “Barbone” and the homeless people are distributed, who, shortly before the seventh evening, as if they were not even aware of the surrounding world. Some sleep, one of them in a wheelchair, with a sagging head deep on the chest. In addition to the óror of life on the street, another, distilled.

Asking them about Francis, who lies near the floor of the St. Peter’s Basilica, is not worth it. I see that the Pope from the “end of the world” and the slums of Rio de Janeira had “peripherals” literally under his windows in the Vatican.

On the way from there is a San Pietrini restaurant with a typical Roman cuisine. Life goes on in it too. People enjoy meals and the waiters are satisfied running and take care of their culinary activities. At least I perceive it through her windows.

When I lift the sight, I see the facade of the Vatican Basilica with its huge apostles and Christ in the middle. At that height, however, they appear to be thumbnails. Also such a perspective is provided by Via delle Fornaci.

He was close to the most ordinary

I run into a small pizzeria, from where I have the term “Piccolo Paese”, and therefore a small village in the heart of the metropolis. The local waiter Daniele tells me about it. “I’ve been doing since 1999. It is a quarter that is gradually emptying from the home. They are transforming their apartments here into an opportunity to earn their lease from their lease to tourists or companies,” he explains. “From the third to about three quarters to eight it’s dead here. People are still at work.

When I ask him about Pope Francis, he responds that “as the son of a good Catholic family” felt him very close. “He was very close to ordinary people. In this I saw a big difference with Pope Benedict,” he says. “People loved him. We see it today, how many are coming to him,” he says.

“It was one good pope. I hope that the next one will at least get closer to him,” says the talkative Daniele.

There are thousands of Francis

When I leave Via delle Fornaci from the Vatican, the news comes that more than 90,000 people have been honored from Pope Francis from Tuesday to Thursday evening. I went to him, at night, but about it in another report.
