The mayors of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), and Niterói, Rodrigo Neves (PDT), presented on Friday (25), in the Olympic Park, the official logo of the joint candidacy of the two cities to host the Pan American and Parapan American games of 2031.
The event was held at the Isabel Salgado Olympic Educational Gymnasium, in Barra da Tijuca, and was attended by Marco La Porta and Yane Marques, president and vice president of the Brazil Olympic Committee (COB).
Inspired by the sun and the connection between the municipalities of Rio de Janeiro, the symbol was developed with the representative colors of each city: shades of blue refers to the river, with its sea, sky and iconic landscapes, while oranges and yellows represent Niterói, known for the vibrant sunset and cultural effervescence.
The image brings colorful rays that suggest bridges, real and symbolic, between the two cities, graphically translating the spirit of unity, movement and energy.
The Rio-Niterói 2031 candidacy was made official by COB in late January, with 48 votes in favor, one blank and only one against. Now, the next step will be the delivery of the Official Dossier to the Pan American Sports Organization (Panam Sports), scheduled for April 30. Confirmation of the acceptance of the application must occur the next day. A is scheduled for August.
Currently, the only competitor of Rio and Niterói is the Paraguayan capital, Asuncion, which also made an interest in hosting the event. The city had already tried to receive the 2027 edition, but was surpassed by Lima, Peru.
Pan 2031 can unlock mobility project
Among the points that will be highlighted in the dossier is the proposal to take the line 3 of the subway. Created for over 30 years, the project foresees the rail connection between Rio and Niterói, through a submarine tunnel.
Still without a scheduled schedule, for the metropolitan region, if Brazil wins the dispute for the headquarters of the Games.
