Naturally – according to nature
At the beginning we can simply say that the cultivation of tomatoes in free soil is, of course, a more natural method that nature itself “invented”. The bushes have enough space for root growth, natural nutrition, which can only be supported by fertilization, moisture and more stable temperature. It is no wonder that with proper care we will most likely get more and tastier from tomatoes grown in free soil.
Pluses and minuses
As we said at the beginning, but this method of tomato growing has its disadvantages that we should know about. There is a much greater risk of attacking natural diseases and pests, the result of our efforts is significantly dependent on unaffected factors such as weather and the like. Similarly, of course, it is difficult to rot with the plant when we find that it does not suit light conditions.
The benefits of a pot
What about the tomatoes that we offer a flower pot instead of free land? In this case, it seems that we can only intervene the above risks for the benefits and we will be clear. Yes, it is: in a pot, we will have more tomatoes under supervision, we will be able to clean them on cold nights, for example, in the hallway, better treat them and protect them from pests and diseases. But let us remember that for such a way of cultivation, only less growing, more compact varieties that will not need so much space for the root system.
More laborious but mobile
Among the disadvantages of flower -growing tomatoes, we must first mention the greater demands on the care that we will have to devote to the plants. We will have to give them a lot of nutrients that they would have in common conditions themselves. The watering will also have to be more regular – but not too abundant so that the roots do not drive if the water has nowhere to lose. The smaller volume of soil is also easier to overheat on hot days, which is one of the high risks with a compensated possibility of moving the pot.
It’s just about priorities
So how do we put on the conclusions of experts? Simply: If you have a garden available, it will undoubtedly be better in the free soil. But if you want to grow tomatoes, for example, on the balcony, then the flower pot is also a good choice, we just have to look for all the demands that the tomatoes will have. It is not as simple as it may seem, but let’s not be discouraged by any first failures. No learned gardener from heaven has fallen yet and in the next seasons it will be just better.
