The oldest American astronaut in activity, Don Pettit, who has adventured in space four times and recently returned from the international space station, is also an appreciated astrophotographer for the unique images he has made from the Cosmos.
Here are some of the most impressive prospects about life in space that NASA astronaut surprised in his last space mission, writes
“One of the things I like to do with my astrophotography is to have a different composition and perspective than the one focused on the ground,” Pettit said from the International Space Station (SSI), in an April interview for astrophysicist Neil Degradesse Tyson.
Pettit explained that his photos are about the perspective you have when you are in orbit. “The earth is amazingly beautiful and when you have firmly stuck in the ground, but it is beautiful from space,” said Pettit, who said that it would be difficult for him to tell which of the two perspectives.
“If we had people who live their whole life in orbit, when they came to the ground, they would probably think it is the most beautiful perspective they have ever seen,” Pettit said.
Pettit makes his pictures from a SSI observation module called “Cupola”, an area preferred by many crew members as it has seven windows through which the land can be observed.
