The president of, said on Thursday (24) that decisions of the (Supreme Court) to combat misinformation, including the blockade of social network X, were “a worldwide example” and highlighted the importance that national laws are respected by large technology companies, the so-called big techs.
“Yesterday, at the meeting with the Supreme Court, it was very interesting. In Chile, it seemed tremendously valuable to the STF’s decision to demand a large technology company, such as X, which in Brazil national laws are respected regardless of the power that has a multinational corporation,” Boric said during a lecture at UnB (University of Brasilia).
“This role that, since the judiciary, played against misinformation, is a worldwide example. What they did there is really valuable,” said the Chilean.
Boric concludes on Thursday a three -day state visit to Brasilia. On Tuesday (22), he met with the president (PT) at the Planalto Palace.
During his UNB talk, Boric also said he made a sense of ashamed to see, in possession of US President Donald Trump, the leading executives of major technology companies.
“I was ashamed that when the Big Techs representatives went to inauguration in the US, pay tribute to the new president [Trump]and even changed their respective policies of respect for minorities or against the misinformation being carried on. It is these small omissions, or actions, which seem insignificant, which can end also leading forward, anywhere in the world, to tyrannies that we do not want to come back. “
In 2024, the X remained suspended in Brazil for more than a month by determination of the minister. The justification is that the platform had been breaking judicial decisions related to the overthrow of profiles.
Last year there were still intense criticism from the X owner, the billionaire, Moraes. The businessman, today one of Trump’s leading advisors, accused Moraes of censorship in Brazil. The minister included Musk in an inquiry that investigates the existence of undemocratic digital militias and their financing.
