Died on Saturday (26) Jair da Costa, part of the national team that won the 1962 World Cup. The player was 84 years old. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Jair was revealed by the Portuguese, a team he represented when he was summoned to wear the national team shirt in 1962. Garrincha reserve entered the Canarinho shirt only once, in a friendly, and did not play during the World Cup, but was part of the cast that went to Chile and left there champion.
Even with discreet participation in the tournament, the right-wing caught the attention of Inter Milan, who hired him. He spent ten years in Italy, nine of them with Inter and one playing for Roma in the 1967/68 season. He was a four -time Italian champion for the Milanese team, with which he also won two UEFA champions (in seasons 1963/64 and 1964/65) champions and an Interclub World Cup.
In 1972, he returned to Brazil to play for Santos, with which he was champion of São Paulo, the following year. He retired from football in 1976 on Canada’s Windsor City.
