Macron met with the leaders of the 3 countries during Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican
World leaders gathered in Rome before Pope Francis’ funeral. The Elisha Palace published on Saturday (26.br.2025) a photo of a conversation by President Emmanuel Macron (Renaissance, Center) with the heads of Donald Trump (Republican Party), the United States, Volodymir Zelensky (servant of the people, center), British Prime Minister Keir Strmer (Labor Party, center-left).
An advisor to the Elisha Palace confirmed to the agency Lusa that there was a “positive” conversation among the leaders. The first meeting between Trump and Zelensky, which lasted about 15 minutes, took place inside St. Peter’s Basilica before the Pope’s funeral began.
The Vatican meeting was 1st since one in February. At the time, the American pressed the Ukrainian leader to accept a ceasefire with Russia, and climbed his tone by saying that Zelensky would be “Disrespecting” the US.
Despite meetings with the Ukrainian leader, Trump intends to meet Russia President Vladimir Putin after a trip to the Middle East. The Republican visit is scheduled to be held from 13 to 16 May and will include passages through Saudi Arabia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates.
