Bergenia against weed

Bergénie Purple is an inconspicuous but very effective helper in the fight against weeds. This flowering perennial comes from Asia and at first glance it attracts with its fleshy, shiny leaves and deep pink to purple flowers. What is most interesting about it is its ability to suppress weed growth naturally. Thanks to the dense and spreading foliage, we virtually does not give a weed a chance. His seeds do not get light, and so even the chance to germinate. Unlike mulch or fabric, which needs to be supplemented or replaced over time, the bergenia is perennial, low growing and, moreover, evergreen. So weeds hold at bay all year round.

In addition to preventing Bergenia from growing undesirable plants, it also has other advantages. It helps to retain moisture in the soil, protects it from erosion and promotes biodiversity. Its flowers attract pollinators such as bees or butterflies. In the autumn, her leaves turn deep red, so the garden gives an interesting look outside the high season.

It thrives in the sun and in the shade, in nutritional and poorer soil, it is important to be well permeable. The ideal time for planting is spring, when there is no more frost. After planting it quickly gets used to and creates a strong root system. Planting is also very simple. Just dig the dent twice wider than the root pack, adjust the soil as needed and pour the plant thoroughly. For sufficient space and effective coverage, it is recommended to leave 30 to 90 cm between the plants.
