Rio records more than 200 thousand new businesses in the 1st quarter

Number includes 22,638 companies opened by the Rio de Janeiro State Board and 88,661 by individual microentrepreneurs

The economy of the state of Rio de Janeiro received a strong momentum in the first quarter of 2025, with the opening of 211,299 new businesses. Of this total, 22,638 companies were registered by JUCERJA (Rio de Janeiro State Trade Board) and 88,661 correspond to MEIs (individual microentrepreneurs). The number represents not only a breakthrough in Rio de Janeiro entrepreneurship, but also a significant impact on job creation and income.

“More than 200,000 new businesses registered in 3 months is excellent news for OE demonstrates the vitality of Rio de Janeiro entrepreneurship. This growth not only moves the economy, but it also expands the opportunities for job creation and income for our people, in all regions of the state. JUCERJA has an important role in supporting microentrepreneurs through CAE (Entrepreneur Care Center), a project in partnership with IBAM (Brazilian Institute of Municipal Administration) and CRCRJ (Regional Accounting Council).

CAE currently has 15 nuclei in the state, offering free guidance for those who want to formalize their business, as well as support on obligations and benefits about MEI. From May 2024 to March 2025, the Caes exceeded the mark of 22,929 calls.

“In the past, after opening your business, individual microentrepreneurs were uncovered. For this reason, we provided this free guidance service to MEIs in our service centers.”said the president of Jucerja, Sergio Romay.

The president also recalled that the 1st quarter of 2025 became the best of all time in the 216 years of operation of Jucerja, with the mark of 22,638 companies opened in Fluminense territory, in the period.

This total increased by 31% compared to the number reached in the first 3 months of 2024, when 17,258 new companies were registered. In addition, it is 24% higher than the old record of 2022, which was 18,246 new business open.
