Trump's popularity at 100 days of office is the lowest of any US president in 70 years

Donald Trump has regained the oval room and assumed the leadership of the government in the midst of the strongest numbers of the policy career polls, but as the 100 days of its presidency approach, the opinion of the Americans about what has done so far has become deeply negative, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRs.

Trump’s 41%approval rate is the lowest of any newly elected president at least Dwight Eisenhower – including Trump’s first term.

The approval of the way Trump has been managing the presidency has come down 4 points since March and 7 points compared to the end of February. Only 22% of respondents say they are strongly approving how Trump is managing the position, a new minimum, and about twice respondents claim to disapprove strongly (45%).

Since March, Trump’s approval by women and Hispanic Americans has decreased considerably (7 minus points in each group to 36% among women and 28% among Hispanic). Party opinions about Trump remain widely polarized, with 86% of Republicans to approve and 93% of democrats to disapprove. But among the independent political, the president’s approval rate fell to 31%, equaling the lowest point of his first term with this group and almost the same as his position with them in January 2021.

The poll reveals that the president is submerged and sinking into almost every major questions he sought to address during his term, with public confidence in his ability to deal with these issues also declining.

Trump’s approval rates regarding economic issues have fallen significantly since the beginning of March, when the launch of its tariffs plan caused volatility in the scholarship market and concerns about pricing. Regarding inflation, approval dropped 9 points to 35%, and in relation to tariffs, dropped 4 points to 35%. Your assessment of economy management descended 5 points, reaching the minimum of your career (39%); The previous minimum was hit once in its first term and again in March this year. Only about half of respondents (52%) express confidence in their ability to deal with the economy, which represents a 13 -point descent compared to a CNN poll.

“I am disappointed. I did not vote for him. I was going to give him the benefit of doubt, because I thought he could do things to help the economy and … more disappointment,” said a 55-year-old Virginia resident, who identifies himself as independent and participated in the poll. She has been working for the federal government for over two decades and asked her name not to be used.

Following his deep efforts to remodel the Federal Government’s labor force, Trump has lost ground in the federal government’s management approval rates (42% approve, less 6 points since March) and only 46% express confidence in it to name the best people for office, 8 points since December. Less than half (43%) sees Trump’s shares as a necessary ably for in Washington, while most (57%) say that his presidency approach is unnecessarily putting the country at risk.

Derek Steinmetz, a Wuwatosa Democrat, Wisconsin, said he was more concerned about Trump’s “widespread disrespect for the rules, norms, and structure of our government.” It was a concern in the first term, but it’s much worse this time, because there are fewer barriers in place. ”

Trump measures in foreign affairs – which included a more friendly stance on Russia in their war with Ukraine and the end of many foreign aid programs – are also being disapproved by the majority (39% approve, 60% disapprove). Half says he has a lot or confidence in his ability to deal with external matters, against 55% before his inauguration.

Even with regard to immigration, an issue where Trump surpassed his best performance in the first term earlier this year, the poll reveals a decline in approval rates and a decrease in confidence in Trump’s actions. Globally, 45% approve it now, 6 points less than in March, and 53% express confidence in their ability to deal with the issue, against 60% in December.

Trump gets closely positive ratings in just one question tested on the survey: the way he deals with the gender identity issues and transgender people. In total, 51% of respondents approve their performance in this matter, including 90% of Republicans, 48% of independents and 16% of Democrats.

“In fact, I am very pleased that he said that there is only man and female. In fact, I was very happy when he said that, when he turned it into law, that there are only men and there are only women, that there are no binaries, he, she, they/they. There is no”, Lisa Munson, a mother of three children of Maryland who voted for Trump, when they asked what they considered to be Trump.

Trump’s efforts to shape American arts, culture and history are, however, much less popular, with 64% to consider it inadequate that he takes measures such as controlling Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the demand for changes in Smithsonian Institution museum exhibitions, an effort that delegated in part to Vice President Jd Vance.

Vance equals Trump’s 41% approval in the survey, with 58% disapproval. Neither Trump nor Vance are welcomed by most Americans. Only 40% say they have a favorable view of the president and 34% a favorable view of Vance.

Generally speaking, Americans’ confidence in Trump to use the power of the presidency responsibly (46% confidence, less 8 points) and to provide a real leadership to the country (50% confidence, 9 points) has fallen dramatically since December. Trump issued a series of executive orders that determine changes in government practices and policies and which were the subject of numerous court contests.

“I’m not a big fan of executive orders that Trump and all other presidents are constantly emitting. In Trump’s case, I think he exaggerates in these executive orders, which is why many of them are overthrown by the courts, because there is no authority to do it,” said George Mastrodonato, a partially retired attorney who lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and joined the survey.

“I liked it to be a little more discreet and focus on the executive orders you write and the questions you can earn in court. He seems to be like Yosemite Sam, you know? Throws two weapons on both hands, and some of them take and some.”

Just over half of Americans (52%), including majorities of Democrats and Republicans, say Trump’s second presidency will fundamentally change the country lastly. A little more than a third (36%) states that any significant changes made by Trump will disappear when he leaves office, and only 12% say Trump’s second term will not result in significant changes to the country.

Still, Americans are very divided as to the fact that Trump has fulfilled important campaign promises. Almost half, 48%, says he is doing a good job, 51% a bad job – numbers that mirror this time in his first term. A majority of 55% says he has taken at least some measures to effectively solve the nation’s problems, although only 28% believe he has done things that have already begun to help solve the country’s problems.

Mastrodonate, Trump’s voter of New Mexico, also considers that Trump is fulfilling his promises. “He’s doing what he said he was going to do. Some of his approaches, I would have a different approach, but, you know, he’s Donald Trump, so he’s doing whatever he wants.”

The CNN poll was held among 1,678 adults from all over the country by SSRs, from 17 to 24 April, using a combination of online and telephone interviews. The survey samples were originally extracted from two sources – an online panel based on probabilities and a registered – and combined sample. The respondents were initially contacted by mail, telephone or email. The complete sample results have a sampling margin of about 2.9 points.
