Tariff War, along with a series of controversial measures, has been pointed out as one of the main reasons for growing dissatisfaction among the population
On the eve of completing 100 days ahead of the presidency of those in his second term, he faces a significant drop in his popularity. The tariff war, along with a series of controversial measures, has been pointed out as one of the main reasons for growing dissatisfaction among the population. According to the latest polls, at least half of Americans are dissatisfied with the president. The latest survey of the research aggregator Nate Silver reveals that Trump has 47% approval, a drop from the 51% recorded at the beginning of his government.
The loss of support is more pronounced among democrats, independent voters, women and youth, groups that were crucial for their victory the previous year. Among conservatives, the situation is also worrying. The Associated Press Norc Public Affairs Research Center points out that 40% of Republican voters consider Trump a terrible president at the beginning of this term, while only 30% evaluate their management as great or good. The economic scenario has been a determining factor for the president’s fall in popularity. The new tariff policy adopted by Trump generated negative reactions in the financial market and rekindled the fear of a recession.
Trump resumed the government in a different economic context from the end of its first term in 2021. The US Consumer Price Index recorded an annual rise of almost 3% in 2024. In response, the president has announced economic measures that, according to him, aim to strengthen the country by moving away from international trade. However, the economic recovery discourse has not been reflected in opinion polls. Currently, 55% of Americans are pessimistic and disapprove of Trump’s performance in the economy.
