The minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), denied that the case that led to the arrest of the former president is a signal to (). The statement was given on Monday (28) to journalists after a lecture by the magistrate in São Paulo.
“I don’t see it that way. Each case has its peculiarities and singularities. I don’t think we should take any other conclusion from here,” he said after being asked whether Collor’s trial could be seen as a precedent or a court signage.
On Monday, the Supreme Court resumed the judgment of the referendum of the decision of the minister who led to Collor’s arrest.
Last Friday (25), when there was the first part of the trial session, Gilmar suspended the debates with a prominent request, a mechanism that brings a discussion of the virtual plenary to the physicist.
Other ministers, however, anticipated the votes to accompany the rapporteur, Alexandre de Moraes, to maintain the decision. Over the weekend, Gilmar canceled the prominent request.
Collor was arrested last Friday in Alagoas to serve a sentence of eight years and ten months in prison for the conviction for and money laundering. The judgment of the merits of the case had occurred in 2023, and the former president awaited the exhaustion of appeals.
