Stuffed cabbage is leading in Polish cuisine – this is the favorite dish of many people. According to the traditional recipe, we wrap the meat stuffing in cabbage. Maybe it’s worth moving away from the classics? Reach for bear garlic, which is currently in abundance. Check the exact recipe.

It grows up to 20-50 cm and is characterized by wide, lanceolate leaves. The season is currently underway for this plant, which is why it is available in many grocery stores. We can also sow or plant it in the garden, but you will have to wait for its crops until the next year.

The smell of bear’s garlic is milder than in the case of traditional. A note of onion fragrance is also felt in it. Its leaves have a more delicate, more herbal taste than garlic. They are successfully suitable for use in salads, soups, pesto or as an addition to meat dishes.

This plant is also famous for its health properties. It is a source of vitamins: A, C, E and those from group B. It also contains minerals, i.e. calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron. Antiviral and antibacterial. In addition, regularly consumed can help reduce blood pressure, support digestion and neutralize free radicals.

We divided the ingredients into bear garlic into three parts. The first concerns meat stuffing, the second tomato sauce, and the third addition in the form of a seasonal plant.

So what ingredients do we need to make stuffed cabbage with bear garlic?

Ingredients for stuffing:

  • 350 g of minced meat;
  • 50 g of rice;
  • 1 egg;
  • Spices: salt, pepper as desired

Ingredients for sauce:

  • 400 g of tomato passage;
  • 120 ml of water;
  • 1 onion;
  • 2 tablespoons of oil;
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato concentrate;
  • 1/2 teaspoon of hot peppers;
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar;
  • Spices: salt, pepper as desired.

Additionally:

  • Bear garlic leaves.

At the beginning we make a meat stuffing. For this purpose in salted water according to the instructions on the packaging. Then strain it and add with the egg to a bowl with minced meat. Mix everything and season with salt and pepper.

The meat stuffing prepared in this way is formed into longitudinal meatballs And we wrap them in washed and dry bear’s leaves. We do it the same as in the case of traditional cabbage cabbage.

In the next step we prepare the sauce: First, peel and finely chop the onion, which we then fry in hot oil until it is false. Then add passata, water, concentrate and all spices – we cook the whole 20 minutes on medium heat.

After this time, we reduce the gas, We add stuffed cabbage and cook in the sauce for 15 minutes. Then we turn them over to the other side and continue heating for another quarter.

Stuffed cabbage with bear garlic is served with potatoes or with fresh bread. The whole is perfectly complemented by white cabbage and carrot salad.
